Every day at least one song - Week # 23 (June 30, 2025)

When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

It’s hot here, but it looks like it’s much hotter in parts of Europe, so with that please stay cool and don’t work too hard. Having said that the fantastic Mother’s Ruin video featuring the songs ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Danny Hot Dog’ is a great fit for this morning celebrating youth, fun and good music. Mother’s Ruin hailed from sunny Zurich, Switzerland back in the golden age of punk/new wave, and with that make the most of today kids!

Happy Canada Day to the folks north of the border on this first day of the month of July. While us down here in Trumpistan have really nothing to be happy about, Canadians have a reason to celebrate being different from America, something the Trump presidency most likely made more palpable. No country is perfect, but at least Canada seems to be steadily working on improving its relations with its own people and with the rest of the world, as well as striving to learn from its past mistakes. With that I give you a highly critical song of Canada by my favorite Canuck band, the Subhumans from Vancouver, B.C. Happy Tuesday!

It’s hard to believe that Debbie Harry turned eighty years young this week. Sometimes when figures like herself accompany you from your childhood through youth all the way up to the now, you always remember them at their youngest in their career. In a way, she hasn’t aged much, and with that I give you some nice footage from the Musikladen in ‘78, a German TV show, while the band was really gaining steam in popularity. Last but not least, rest in peace Clem Burke. Happy Wednesday!

Trust me folks, I definitely had not planned on posting Gerry & The Pacemakers big hit this morning, but having read the terribly sad news of Diogo Jota and his brother’s passing I couldn’t think of a more fitting song. As a Liverpool fan I am devastated, but on my walk with Olga the dog I realized how precious time is in our lives as everything can change from one minute to the next. With that, make the most of today, stay positive and have a good one! Rest in Peace, Diogo and Andre, YNWA!

Yesterday the speaker of the house Mike Johnson apparently heard Jesus talking to him about the “big beautiful bill” and how it needs to be passed. Well, the bill was passed and the “Orange man” in charge of this sinking ship is going to sign it into law today. Hoorah for us on this July 4 holiday, where we better remind ourselves of the atrocities this country is responsible for around the globe on a daily basis instead of stuffing our months with unhealthy food. With that I give you Mad Parade from Southern California with a song from their aptly titled 2019 album “Bombs and the Bible”. Happy Friday!

I learned about Cerebros Exprimidos in ‘91 when I met some of the guys from Wipe Out Skaters from Madrid in Toronto, Canada of all places. Long story.. Anyway, funnily enough Cerebros than played a gig in Zurich, Switzerland, and that must have been around ‘93 or thereabouts. It was at some festival organized by some Spanish cultural organisation and when the band entered the stage pretty much everyone ran away. They released a bunch of great records and were equally influenced by US Hardcore and Spanish punk rock. From the comments I read on Youtube their singer Jaume has passed away, Rest in Peace brother. Have a great Saturday!

With the weather being very dry and hot I already have the summertime blues. I am no fan of heat and either stay home or follow the shade. And quite frankly in a way I look forward to being back at work tomorrow to sit my ass in a 69 degree courtroom. Eddie Cochran’s well known hit was famously covered by the likes of Blue Cheer, The Who et al., and I always find it fascinating how a song can live on and evolve, often through different genres. Cochran was only twenty one years old when he died in a car accident while on tour in the UK, but his contributions to rock’n’roll are not forgotten. Happy Sunday and stay cool!
