Every day at least one song - Week # 65 (April 20, 2026)
When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. Now in its second year I shall continue to post at least one song every day, old and new and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!

I’ve always loved this Chelsea song which had originally come out around the time I was still living in London in the late ‘00s. The lyrics remind me of my years of living in the “Big Smoke” struggling to survive in one of the most exciting yet also most expensive cities in the world. Taking night buses home after a long night at the pub, arguing over the Premier League results at work on Monday, great Indian food, greasy full English breakfasts and so many more good memories of that place have stayed with me and will never go away. And with that, don’t let it bother you that it’s Monday and have a great day!

Today over lunch I listened to a podcast with one of the early punk rockers from the Ruhr Valley area in Germany. Artless hailed from Duisburg, a city that is known for its large harbor and a rich history in heavy industries. Such working class areas have often been breeding grounds for subcultural activities and it was no different with the early punk rock scene in Duisburg where large punk rocker gatherings took place in the inner city every second Saturday afternoon to annoy the shopping crowds, or to generally create chaos. In 1980 Artless recorded a tape, which years later was reissued on vinyl. Today’s song appeared on said tape and is an early German punk rock classic. Hope you had a great day!

It’s Wednesday evening and I don’t have much to say so I’m going to give you one of the countless ‘60s garage rock crackers released in 1967 as a 45 single. All I know about Rear Exit is that they hailed from California, but that’s it. As per Discogs said 45 single was the only release the band had released, a shame. Now someone please reissue this platter. Hope you have a good night!

Punk marks its 50th year anniversary and so does the first Ramones LP released exactly fifty years ago today. Now, say what you want about these scruffy New Yorkers, but when we look back at a half century of punk rock the importance of the same titled first Ramones full length just can’t be underestimated as punk rock might have not taken off the way it did just a year after it has come out. May the original Ramones rest in peace but the music will live on for decades to come. Hey Ho let’s go!

It’s a gray and blistery day out there today after a real sunny and warm day yesterday. Spring is kind of non-existent in Buffalo, or at least not to the degree you can experience it elsewhere. I always describe it as an extension to the winter with milder but still somewhat cold temperatures. I think Hammerhead from Germany fits my mood very well this morning. These lads have been at it since the ‘90s and are a bunch of pissed off men churning out music for the disenfranchised. Here some great live footage from a couple of weeks ago, enjoy! Happy Friday!

It’s been over a week now, but a happy belated birthday to Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat/Fugazi fame who turned 64 years young on April 16. Over the years I’ve listened to numerous podcast interviews with Ian and I must say it never gets dull. Ian is one of the few old timers having aged with grace and wisdom. Back in 1991 I saw Fugazi in Toronto, and while some of Ian’s preaching from the stage got on my nerves the show was really good. The footage I share today is from the same year and shows the band at probably their best. Happy Saturday!

To be honest with you this week I’ve had a hard time to think of a song every day hence this morning I decided to take a break from it. I have to focus on adding interviews and reviews to the website anyway, so this break will come at a good time, and frankly sixty five weeks in a row for now has been a good run. I will get back to it at some point for sure. Yesterday I watched an interesting Spanish movie on Night Flight called Poppers. It’s a bizarre movie, yet it does have its moments and certainly manages to catch the mood of early/mid-’80s Spain, including some subcultural references. Desechables from Vallirana (Barcelona) seem to be the perfect soundtrack for this morning then, a band that was around from ‘81 through ‘89 and released several records of which I do have some reissues I should review at some point. Happy Sunday!
