Every day at least one song - Week # 36 (September 29, 2025)

When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

Monday, September 29, 2025:

Aargh, it’s Monday again. The weekends just fly by and it’s hard to even get a real break with all the chores that stack up throughout the week. Over the years I have developed a complex relationship with Zona A, at one point one of my favorite bands from Bratislava in Slovakia where I was born. The band started out as early as 1984, and was one of the first punk rock acts in the former Czechoslovakia that actively took a stand against the communist regime. The song I am posting today entitled “Cervena armada” originally appeared on the Punk’s Not Dead compilation LP in ‘91. Translated into English the song title means “Red Army” and is about the Russian invasion and occupation of Czechoslovakia while taking a humorous take of the Russians leaving. Unfortunately over the years the band’s singer and sole remaining original member, Peter aka Konyk, has grown increasingly right wing and has ironically enough made some very dubious comments about the conflict in the Ukraine, as well as racist remarks on many occasions. These days Peter performs with musicians that either don’t care about his views or share them. Zona A are no longer part of the punk rock scene and play biker bars or god knows what other venues that tolerate intolerance. It’s a real shame, but that’s how it goes sometimes. With that, happy Monday!

Hard to believe, but another month can be scratched off from the calendar as September is drawing to an end. I was way too busy in the morning so today’s song comes late, but as the saying goes, better late than never. Napalm Death’s Scum LP was released thirty-eight years ago and I remember very well where and how I heard it for the first time shortly after it had come out, but more about that when I review the record which should be soon(ish). Well, these Brummies certainly kicked hardcore punk into another gear, and with that have a noisy Tuesday!

Wednesday, October 1, 2025:

Welcome to October with a US Government shutdown. Well, it’s not shocking and quite frankly it would have been more surprising had it not come to this. I hope the thousands of Federal government workers that will be furloughed will not have to put up with this bullshit for too long, and even more importantly they won’t lose their jobs permanently. The Red Dons came out of the equally great The Observers and continued where said band left off, simply great and intelligent punk rock that should want you to learn more about those two bands. Happy Wednesday!

So, the heat had to be turned on this morning, otherwise the dog and us humans would be sitting here freezing our asses off. With the cold nights and increasingly colder days returning I will never forget those dark and cool fall days of the late ‘80s when discovering bands from around the world was my daily obsession. Kafka Process from Oslo in Norway recorded some of my all time favorite hardcore punk tracks on their Split-LP with Disorder from the UK. After their split up in ‘87 So Much Hate sprung up out of their ashes, another fantastic band that I luckily also saw on their first European tour. But, more about that another day. Enjoy this one, and have a great day!
