Every day at least one song - Week # 19 (June 02, 2025)

When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

So, another freaking Monday is upon us and with that a world of fun. Until not too long ago I don’t remember ever hearing about Martin Newell and his band, Cleaners from Venus, but thanks to the excellent VG- Youtube channel I learned so much more about this unique artist. Just one of those excentric Englishmen with a tremendous talent for composing great music en masse. There are a lot of records and maybe one day I’ll dig into the back catalogue but for now I better grab some breakfast and head to work. Happy Monday!

I was very sad to hear about Colin Jerwood’s passing yesterday. Even though I have never been a big fan of Anarcho Punk, Conflict have always been on my radar and I did see them live once ages ago. I am sure that wherever Colin is now that he will continue the fight for a better and more just world. Here one of my favorites by Conflict, rest in peace Colin.

A scorcher of a hot day is upon us so let me match that with a track that shall equal the intensity of the temperatures today. Ladies and gentlemen, here we go with the Sidetracks, a four-piece from the wonderful city of Lucerne in Switzerland. Two of the members I know in person, one of them having lived for many years in Brooklyn, NY as well. Just in your face garage punk the way it’s supposed to be. Grab their cassette if you have one of those funny things that play them, and have a great day!

The world recently got a new pope, and while I am not a religious person I have to say that a worse candidate could have been picked. In 1982 the Dead Nittels from Austria dedicated a song to “Der Papst”, and obviously they picked some choice words to spice up the sound. It’s a great track from a small European country with a not very rich history in punk rock. Happy Thursday!

The other day I remembered that there is footage of the Night Marchers show at the Dirty Water Club in London on Youtube, a show I attended and have great memories of. Little did I know that said footage is from June 6, 2008, seventeen years ago to the day. The bald guy bouncing up and down, that’s yours truly loser writing these posts here. My friend Wojtek, whom I used to work with at Southern Records, and many others were at that sweaty and packed show, a great drunken Friday night it was. The Night Marchers with John Reis on guitar and vocals are just one of many bands he featured in, including Hot Snakes or the well loved Rocket From the Crypt. A great blast from the past, and with that I wish you a Happy Friday!

A busy, busy day is slowly coming the end here after having ran around like a headless chicken it seems. Besides going to stores and to the vet with the dog, I did manage to go to a local garage sale with hundreds of records. Sadly this time around I only bought one record as I usually find quite a few things at this particular seller as he does these big sales at least twice a year. Well, here a song off of the Dave Brubeck Quartet “Time Out” LP, the only record I grabbed today. I’m sure you’ll have heard it somewhere in your life, and with that have a happy jazzy Saturday evening!

Jo Squillo was born in Milan, Italy in the early ‘60s and has since the late ‘70s successfully managed to reinvent herself several times. From her start in all female punk rock act Kandeggina Gang she gradually worked on her solo career leading her to not just be a successful musician but also actress. Here a song from her 1981 released great new wave solo LP, a fine track to finish this week off. Happy Sunday!
