Every day at least one song - Week # 3 (February 10, 2025)

When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

(Written on 02-17-25) So, it’s Monday and the day of the funeral in London. Without going into details as to who has passed away, I just wanted to make a general comment about life and death, and the fact that despite sadness we the ones left here should always focus on celebrating the deceased’s life as that is what that person would want us to do. That was definitely felt at the funeral I attended, and I think we all appreciated that. With that my intention is to have an uplifting song for that day, so here we go with the Pleasure Seekers from 1965 featuring a certain Suzi Quatro.

(Written on 02-17-25) In the cab on the way to London’s Heathrow airport the driver had LBC Radio on and the show focused on the legacy of Margaret Thatcher’s life. Since the volume was low I couldn’t really understand every word the callers had to say about that evil lady, but from what I could tell all views were taken into account. The Notsensibles from Burnley wrote “I’m in love with Margaret Thatcher” in 1979 and to this day it has remained an underground hit. If the wikipedia entry for the song is to be trusted then I hope the band got rich off the song featuring in the 2011 film ‘The Iron Lady’ with Meryl Streep.

(Written on 02-17-25) Back from the whirlwind trip to London I found myself watching the Merseyside derby Everton v. Liverpool as I was luckily off from work that day. As a Liverpool fan I despised the fact that the blue noses scored a last second equalizer which they celebrated as if they had just won the league title. With last week’s game at Goodison Park being the last derby played at that stadium I can’t help but play “You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry & The Pacemakers. Got the joke?

(Written on 02-17-25) Being back in Buffalo it seems only fitting to highlight an active band from here. Gentlemen of Age (G.O.A.) have just recently released a new record, and ‘Business is Business’ is one of the tracks off of their new EP. Put it simply it’s great old school Hardcore Punk produced by Don Fury, so check out these guys!

(Written on 02-17-25) It’s Friday, and why not stick with a band from Buffalo, this time from way back when. The Fems released a 4-Song EP back in ‘82 and the title track “Go To A Party” is just a killer song that fits the premise of a holiday weekend the best. Lots of assholes going to parties and acting, well… like assholes. Drink up!

(Written on 02-17-25) Back to my roots day it is. Kreator were one of the many Thrash Metal acts I adored in the Mid-80s. Since I lived in Switzerland at the time bands from Germany of said genre played a big role, and these guys from the Ruhr valley were huge in my world forty years ago. Unbelievable that four decades on I am writing about them and to my knowledge they are still going strong.

(Written on 02-17-25) Sunday fun day, well not this one. I spent a good two hours cleaning up snow and ice yesterday here in good old Buffalo. In 1981 Swiss band Grauzone released “Eisbaer“, singing about wanting to be a polar bear. Yesterday I at times felt like a polar bear out there, hence this song is a perfect fit. Over time the song became much more better known turning into a mega hit eventually. In my opinion one of the timeless tracks where the raw energy of punk clashed with newly available technology creating Neue Deutsche Welle (New German Wave).
