Every day at least one song - Week # 4 (February 17, 2025)

When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

Finally up to date with these entries and it’s a holiday here in the U.S as well providing me with a chance to catch up a little bit on all kinds of fronts. There is a Youtube channel I subscribe to which I really enjoy watching because the guy behind it, Jan, has a really good way introducing all kinds of bands, labels or music genres from the past, something right up my alley. You have to understand German though, sorry about that. Today I watched the episode about Junk Shop Glam, a genre that in recent years has seen the rise of several compilation series covering lesser known glam rock acts from the ‘70s. It really is not a genre I ever paid much attention to, but in all fairness and as one would expect there are tons of hits the world needs to hear like this one here by Stud Leather!

It’s sad that quite often these days a musician’s death makes my task as to what song to choose simpler. With that being said many of you will have seen that The Jam’s drummer Rick Buckler passed away earlier today at the age of 69 years. Needless to say that The Jam were not just an important band for the early punk rock explosion in London, but at the same time they were an integral part of the Mod revival. May Rick rest in peace and thank you for all the great tunes you were part of! Here one of my favorite songs by the Jam…

I think it’s about time I post some new shit here as well. Lion’s Law from France have been around since 2012 and during that time they have not only released several records, but above all toured around the world quite a bit. Personally I’ve never seen them live, but I’ve come across many an exciting live video of theirs and it seems like they must put on a great show, hence they have continuously gained in popularity. Here their brand new video “Sewer Rats” from their brand new full length. Happy Wednesday!

Another new(ish) song for today me thinks with Craggy Collide from Brno in the Czech Republic albeit they are a British/Slovak band based in the Czech Republic. Having been born in the former Czechoslovakia, and also having lived some years in the UK I find this intriguing, but it is of course the music that grabbed my attention when I randomly found the band on Facebook. Just listen to the guitar and don’t tell me it isn’t reminiscent of long gone by days of the ‘70s. Just an all around great rock’n’roll song which should make your day. Happy Thursday!

When I lived in London from ‘07 through ‘12 I worked in Canary Wharf for the European Medicines Agency in the archives. Said agency eventually moved to Amsterdam because of Brexit, and I myself moved Stateside in 2012. Downstairs from the agency there was a little newsstand and the fellow working there was Pete, a music enthusiast and an all around nice guy, originally from Budapest in Hungary. At some point he started his own band, the Buddha Pests, played little pubs and venues in London, but eventually also moved back to his home country. With a different line-up the band has been going to this day and this video is a few months old. Great guitar pop with a punky edge to it.

Just got home from my morning walk on a brisk but so far sunny day. It’s going to get very windy in a bit, so I thought I better move my aging bones as long as the sun is out. And of course we still have lots of snow and ice to plough through, but a big break is in sight starting tomorrow. Anyhow, time for some real rock’n’roll folks, and Killer Kin from New Haven, Connecticut deliver just that. One of the most exciting new discoveries in my opinion, and I shall review their LP soon(ish). Instead of posting their official video for this song, I rather opted for a cool live clip from 2022. I hope these guys make it to bloody Buffalo one of these days. Happy Saturday!

Well, we’ve made it through another week of snow, cold weather and grey skies. Not complaining here though as it could always be worse, and after all it’s winter in freaking Buffalo, NY. It can certainly get cold in Sweden as well, and Mesk are a new discovery of mine. They hailed presumably from the capital city of Stockholm and appeared on a rare compilation from 1981 with the title Svenska Tonarsgrupper Volume 3. Come to find out that there never was a Volume 1 or 2, I guess that’s Swedish humor for you. Re-Ken Records released a retrospective Mesk EP a few years back, but unfortunately it is out of print. With that, enjoy some fantastic early Svensk punk rock and have a great Sunday!
