Every day at least one song - Week # 17 (May 19, 2025)

When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

Another manic Monday and about time I post the first song of the week as I didn’t manage to do so in the morning. I read somewhere on Facebook that Mike Spenser, singer in The Cannibals and formerly of the Count Bishops, is fighting cancer. I recall seeing them at some little club in London in ‘07 when I moved to the city. They were great, and with that enjoy this one and much strength to Mike! Happy Monday!

An escape from the planet earth does sound like a good plan, especially these days, but the reality is that all I’ll be escaping is the comfort of being at home to go to work. Anyhow, the Alley Cats with one of their many hits from the early days of Los Angeles punk/new wave, just a brilliant song by an equally brilliant band filmed in 1979. Not much more I got to say early in the morning, enjoy the day folks!

Lots of oohs and aaahs might help with the rollercoaster weather we’ve been having in these parts of the world as it is set to start raining for the entire day. Anyhow, in 1966 Ides of March from Chicago, Illinois released this wonderful song, one of my favorite songs ever in all fairness. Later in their career they became more of a hippie outfit, but this is a wonderful ‘60s garage rock smasher. Have a great day!

Thursday, May 22, 2025:

On this grey and rainy Thursday it’s time to match the mood sonically and visually so here you go with Dr. Drexler Project from the small southern german town of Augsburg delivering you a musically brilliant and equally gloomy outlook on today’s society. I love their modern day take of the post-punk sound of yesteryear and their criticism of the Neoliberal order, never enough of this. Happy Thursday!

Only the fact that it’s a Friday and a Holiday weekend is upon us makes me feel happy, but going outside in a minute with the dog looks dreadful thanks to the unstable and wet weather. Time for a real mood lifting song me thinks, and with that I give you Buffalo local gal Carlena Weaver with the beautiful “heart break” song. Carlena had an illustrious career from being an Ikette in Ike & The Turner Revue to touring with Pink Floyd as a backing vocalist as well. Luckily she obviously recorded many of her own hits as well, and with that have a great Friday!

Back in 1980 when “Teenage” came out as a Single Charlie Harper was far away from being a teenager. Today Charlie turns 81 years young, yes you are reading that correctly. Quite astonishing in a day and age when people with a much healthier lifestyle die much younger, which gives me hope that maybe one day I will be able to retire. Anyhow, whether you are a fifteen year old punk rocker or just turned sixty eight years old, what you have in common is the fact that you had seen the UK Subs on stage. With that, wishing Charlie a great one and to many more!

So, I’m a little lost in Liverpool land today with the Premier League having had its last day and my beloved team finally lifting the long deserved trophy. In that sense I nearly forgot to post a song, but since Arne Slot, the Liverpool manager, is from the Netherlands and the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League, here a great one from Holland by Frites Modern. Should you really dig it, read more about the LP in my review. Happy Sunday and YNWA!
