Every day at least one song - Week # 11 (April 7, 2025)
When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

It’s been a bad start to the week with several musicians unfortunately having passed away way too early. One of them is Al Barile, former guitar player of influential Straight Edge Hardcore band Society System Decontrol (SSD) from Boston, MA. I just recently finished reading Nancy Barile’s book “I’m not holding your coat”, which I can highly recommend. It was sad to learn yesterday that Nancy’s husband Al has died after battling with cancer. The video I am posting is from a show SSD played in the ‘80s in Camden, NJ, a rough town across the river from Philadelphia, where Nancy is originally from. Nancy describes in her book how the band barely made it out alive from that show, but read for yourself by getting a copy. Rest In Peace, Al.

Back in the ‘90s I briefly lived in the wonderful city of Toronto in Canada. At some point at a show I was introduced to Imants, who was a stalwart of the T.O. punk and hardcore scene since the ‘70s and lived in nearby Hamilton. I quickly learned that Imants was a walking punk library with an immense knowledge about pretty much any scene in the world. Usually he would give me a ride home after shows in the downtown area of Toronto as I lived in Etobicoke, which was on the way to Hamilton. One time after a show at the El Mocambo we hopped into Imants’ old beaten up car and he turned on the stereo playing some compilation CD that came out on Nasty Vinyl in Germany. He asked me whether I was familiar with Lo Schanal from Zurich in Switzerland, which I was. Not that I liked the band as I never gravitated toward that brand of punk rock, but Imants loved Deutschpunk like nobody else I had ever known, and to this day I have a feeling he must have been the only one in Canada to do so. The last time I saw Imants we had a great time in Toronto and New York City while I visited North America at that time from Switzerland. Unfortunately I didn’t get to hang out with him since moving to the US in 2012 as Imants passed away in 2011. He is missed by many music maniacs around the world and would have turned 73 this past Sunday, April 6. This one’s for you, mate!

The weather has turned really cold again here in Buffalo, NY, so some music to keep me warm shall help me to get through the day. Boneyard from sunny Greece seem like the perfect soundtrack for today with their punked up Metal sound. Not sure if the band’s still going, but this is certainly to my liking. With that, have a good day everybody!

Here a YouTube discovery from yesterday, and another example of fine punk rock from the city of Cleveland, having already given the world the likes of the Pagans, Dead Boys et al. Don’t know anything about the history of the Chronics, except that they released just one single back in ‘78. Both tracks are killer, and with that I wish you a great day!

Hey Ho, Friday here we come. It’s just a shame the weather is not cooperating with my general mood and remains grey and miserable, but let’s not complain too much. The land of thousands of lakes and forests, also known as Finland, is well known for its ferocious hardcore punk acts from the ‘80s, but the country also gave us many great early punk rock acts such as Karanteeni from Tampere, founded in ‘78. Here one of their many pogo smashers. Happy Friday!

If I were still living in Switzerland then I would know exactly what I would be doing tonight as Hamburg punk rock legends Razzia will be headlining Soli’s 50th birthday party. Many moons ago Soli was the designated punk rock driver enabling us non-driving punk rock losers to witness many a great show we would not have seen otherwise, something I shall be eternally thankful for. Another friend of mine back in Switzerland is celebrating his birthday as well, and with that a happy Birthday to Soli and Maeny, hebbet en schoene! Happy Saturday!

The weeks just keep flying by, and just like at the beginning of this week I am closing off this week’s post with someone no longer with us, at least not on this bloody earth. I think we can all agree that no matter where exactly your musical preferences are, some bands just bring us all together in musical agreement with Blondie being certainly one of them. The band’s drummer Clem Burke passed away earlier this week after having contributed so much to not just Blondie, but all kinds of other bands and collaborations over the past few decades. May he rest in peace, and with that here a great clip of one of my favorite Blondie hits. Have a great day!
